What often happens though is that the five wave fall is wave c of an a-b-c- correction and ends up being a bottom. Given we are taking support near the 40/50 day averages this is worth thinking about. An expanded flat pattern is an a-b-c pattern where wave b makes a new high and then we fall in wave c in five waves. This means now the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are both ready to rally to new all time highs before the big SpaceX IP

Follow that with what is actually written on the explanatory chart. that second waves are accompanied by news [or sentiment], as bad or worse than seen at the bottom of wave 1, but markets do not follow on to a new low. I think these are the most important words when I study sentiment indicators to forecast market trends using www.strike.money

In a complex correction wave Z is the last stage of the correction marked as W-X-Y-X-Z. Wave Z is three waves down marked as a-b-c, and wave c of Z is five waves. We are inside wave c of Z. When this move ends we will get a more lasting bottom or one worth trading off from on the long side. Till then let it fall, let it drop, let it shake out the weak hands left holding the longs.

Even as the dollar was falling over the last year, USDINR continued to rise because wave 5 was not complete.

USDINR has a monthly RSI reading of 83, the highest since 2002 - is it enough to end wave 5 for the bull run since 2008? The 2002 reading was 90, but that was before the doors were open to a freely traded currency. We are a few more steps away from making it a reliable, freely traded currency the world can trust. The promise of capital account and current account convertibility requires a few more tweaks on the tax side and the implementation of measures to further grow the domestic bond market.

Having said that, we are entering a period of strength for the rupee for the coming few years if wave 5 comes to an end for this particular leg. 2008-2026, an 18-year-long bull market.

So even as the IXIC [Nasdaq Composite] can appear stretched to some, the small-cap index suggests we are just getting started on a new move. USDINR is giving a sell signal after a rejection near the 97 level, near multiple channel lines that have acted as resistance. I believe wave 5 is over, and we have topped out for this cycle. For now, expect a move back to 94. But as evidence gathers, we may see lower levels in the medium term. So the worst may be over for now in the currency pair.

What makes it more interesting is that the REER has also come down closer to 100, narrowing the gap between a very strong currency and a fairly valued one. This is good for our competitive position. Allowing it to get weaker also would not have been a bad idea. But currency stability will be a macro issue we have to address. This problem stems from over-intervention by former RBI governors, starting with Raghuram Rajan, who showed them how to stabilise currency volatility. Then it became policy. But without paying attention to our competitive situation. A free market, in the end, is best, allows for natural adjustments, and serves the long-term good. We were supposed to have moved toward full convertibility.

I am comparing the US 10-year notes over here. However, in the most recent decline, while this correlation holds true, the new highs in bond yields have not led to new lows in equity prices below the April bottom. Is this an inter-market divergence? Is the market telling us something below the surface? The market is telling us to overlook the bond market panic as it might be a trap for equity bears.
